Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC)

If you do not have health insurance, you can receive medical, dental, vision, and mental health care at Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) at a reduced cost.

FQHCs are community-oriented and community-run outpatient clinics that recieve funding from the Health Resource and Service Administration (HRSA). They were established under section 330 of the Public Health Service Act. In order to receive federal funding, FQHCs must be non-profit and community-based; in particular, 51% of the board members must be patients at the center.

FQHCs must offer a Sliding Fee Discount Scale (SFDC). This means that if you do not have health insurance, and make below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, you are offered a discounted rate for any visit.

You can find FQHCs near you using this tool from HRSA: https://findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov/
