Get help learning how to use the computer. This is for everyone from true beginners to those wanting to refine their Microsoft Excel skills.

 

Want to brush up on your digital skills? Using our Northstar database, you can earn certificates for demonstrating skill mastery. The computer help drop-in area is located outside the Literacy office on the 3rd floor at the Headquarters library.

You have the opportunity to spend up to one (1) hour with a library staff member who will assist you with basic computer questions and library databases.

 

Some examples of what staff can help with include:

  • Libby & Overdrive assistance

  • Basic computer skills

  • Email setup

  • Basic Internet searching

  • Scanning and printing photos & documents

  • Library catalog and databases

Bring your own device (laptop, phone, tablet) or use one of the library's computers.

Each patron is limited to one (1) session per month. Wait list is only available for new attendees.

Need some help figuring out technology? Come see us at the Alachua Branch for some help!

 

If you are having trouble using technology (computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.), come see us at the Alachua Branch for our drop-in technology assistance hours. We will be assisting patrons with any technology questions they might have in our Learning Center, from 11am-1pm.

Laptops and desktop computers will be available to assist patrons, but if you need help with a tablet or smartphone, please bring it with you.

Basic Computer Help Drop-In & GED help

Get help learning how to use the computer. This is for everyone from true beginners to those wanting help working out computer issue. Also answering patron’s questions while studying for the GED.

If you’re new to technology or just feel like you need a refresher on basic skills, drop-in for assistance. We will provide you with a solid introduction to computers and offer tips and tricks to help you effectively navigate your computer or laptop. Some skills you may learn are: computer hardware and software, the use of the mouse, and of the keyboard. Learn at your own pace in an informal setting. No experience required. Laptops are provided or you can bring your own.

If you are studying for the GED, we can provide access to databases and resources and aid in helping you understand specific test-based topics. For example, patrons can receive help with arithmetic and math concepts, understanding test passages, social studies and science concepts, using logic and reasoning, and drawing conclusions to aid in answering GED test questions.

Are you preparing for the GED? If you have questions or need some motivation and support, come join us at the library with an experienced GED prep teacher.

 

Come work on the skills you need to pass the GED. These sessions will give individuals preparing for the GED an opportunity to ask for help or advice from an experienced GED prep teacher. Topics covered in each session will be tailored to the needs of the attendees. You don't have to go it alone, we're here for support!
